At present, the main source of income for the district budget is the forest business. State forest land in the Muezersky District totals about 1,747,739 ha. Total allowable annual cut for the district is 865,200 m3, i.e. about 9.5% of the AAC for the republic at large. In 2002, all logging enterprises (lespromkhoz) of the district harvested 668,400 m3, and other organizations - 67,520 m3 of timber. Thus, 94.4% of the allowable annual cut was harvested. The district produces 735,920 m3 of roundwood. About 150,000 m3 of the total timber harvest is exported to Finland.

The 2002 roundwood output of the Muezersky District logging companies is shown in fig. 1.

Roundwood output

Logging and sawmilling are virtually the only industrial activities in the district. Other sectors of the economy play no significant role. The district State forest land is the authority of the Muezersky and Sukkozersky forest enterprises under the Republic of Karelia Department of the Russian Federation Ministry for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. The following logging companies operate in the Muezersky District:

  • PLC "Volomsky LPKh - Leskarel"

  • PLC "Ledmozerskoye lesozagotovitelnoye predprijatije"

  • PLC "Lendersky lespromkhoz"

  • PLC "Muezersky lespromkhoz"

  • PLC "Sukkozero".
