Nine large and medium enterprises operate in the district, and six of them focus on logging. According to the official registration data, 178 enterprises and organizations and 18 private entrepreneurs conduct economic activities in the district. Their annual output is worth 451 million roubles (15.03 million US dollars). The district is developing - investments in the fixed capital of industrial enterprises have been growing since 1998. In 2002 it reached 77,114 million roubles (2,57 million US dollars). Total retail trade turnover per capita is RUR 8,508,500.

The Muezersky District uses its borderline position, liberation of foreign contacts and neighbourly relations with Finland to actively develop its foreign trade. As foreign trade regulations are growing looser, more direct contracts are being concluded by enterprises themselves. This is first of all true for the enterprises based in borderline areas, the Muezersky District included. Timber constitutes the bulk of the export.

In 2002, industrial enterprises of the district exported 150,000 m2 of lumber, plank timber, pulpwood and firewood. For the district, export is the the factor that supports production and generates budget revenues, a source of foreign currency channelled to the solution of socio-economic problems. The second component of foreign trade is import. The district imports foods, consumer goods, equipment, vehicles.
